Supporting A.M.B.U.S.H Veteran Adventures Charity by taking on the National 3 Peaks Challenge

By August 24, 2023 No Comments

In an incredible display of determination and compassion, Dan Weir (Director of W1G) is gearing up with a team of 23 individuals, comprising veterans, active-duty service members, and a group of enthusiastic youngsters, in the National 3 Peaks Challenge. This awe-inspiring challenge involves conquering the three highest peaks in the United Kingdom within a gruelling 24-hour timeframe: Ben Nevis in Scotland (1345m), Scarfell Pike in England (978m), and Snowdon in Wales (1085m). The goal? Raising vital funds for A.M.B.U.S.H Veteran Adventures, a remarkable charity with a mission to support veterans and serving personnel in their quest for physical and mental well-being.

Dan Weir, a dedicated veteran who served in the 2nd Battalion of The Princess of Wales Royal Regiment (PWRR) alongside Matthew Rugman and was involved multiple overseas training exercises and two operational tours, understands the importance of providing ongoing support for veterans and serving personnel.

A.M.B.U.S.H Veteran Adventures, a Not For Profit Organisation, was co-founded by the visionary Matthew Rugman. This organisation has garnered significant support from local governments and a host of military charities and organizations. At its core, A.M.B.U.S.H provides veteran adventure training and woodland activities that blend physical challenges with a strong focus on mental well-being.

The charity takes pride in fostering camaraderie among veterans and serving personnel, offering mentoring and goal-setting activities such as mountain biking, hill walks, hiking, paddleboarding, kayaking, map reading, survival techniques, and various other adventurous events. These activities not only promote physical fitness but also help build mental resilience.

A.M.B.U.S.H Veteran Adventures plays a crucial role in expediting assistance for veterans and serving personnel through partnerships with other welfare and mental health organisations like the Royal British Legion (RBL), SSAFA, and VOS, thereby enhancing the support system for those who have selflessly served our nation.

What sets A.M.B.U.S.H apart is its commitment to environmental conservation. They offer woodland training programs that encompass activities like coppicing, woodland clearing for regrowth, wildlife preservation, rural fencing, and even charcoal burning. These activities serve the dual purpose of equipping veterans with new skills while contributing to the well-being of the environment.

Dan Weir’s involvement in the National 3 Peaks Challenge is a testament to his dedication to supporting veterans and serving personnel. The challenge, made even more formidable by the time constraint, showcases not only physical endurance but also the determination to make a positive impact.

To successfully complete the National 3 Peaks Challenge, a dedicated support team will manage the logistical aspects, ensuring seamless transitions from one peak to another.

The funds raised through this awe-inspiring challenge will be instrumental in securing new equipment for A.M.B.U.S.H Veteran Adventures. This includes kayaks, mountain bikes, walking gear, bashers, and bushcraft tools for wild camping. It will also contribute to administrative and insurance fees. Additionally, the organisation aims to purchase two hand bikes to accommodate individuals who may face mobility challenges due to disabilities, such as wheelchair users, those with prosthetic limbs, or individuals using walking aids.

A.M.B.U.S.H Veteran Adventures collaborates with various entities, including Slindon National Trust, West Sussex County Council, Arundel Town Council, Arundel RBL, Veterans Outreach Support, Havant Borough Council, Havant Veterans Support Hub/Drop-in, Havant & Chichester Serving Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club, and other members of ASDIC (Association of Service Disabled & Injured Service Personnel).

As Dan Weir and the team embark on this incredible journey, we invite you to stand alongside them in support. Your contributions, whether financial, volunteering, or simply by spreading the word, will make a significant impact on the physical and mental well-being of those who have served our great nation.

A.M.B.U.S.H Veteran Adventures is proud to have garnered support from three corporate sponsors: TJ transport/waste, SB Security Solutions and the Sussex Inns. Their commitment underscores the significance of this cause.
